We have an exciting opportunity for an individual who is looking to kickstart a lifelong career within horticulture and learn skills from a talented and experienced team!
We are looking for an apprentice Gardener to assist in all aspects of ground maintenance, located at a private estate set in beautiful historic grounds with an ornamental landscape.
In this role, you will be required to carry out all duties to the highest horticultural standard. We seek a self-motivated individual who can work unsupervised as well as part of the team. You would also be expected to attend a local college to complete an Apprenticeship/NVQ qualification inhorticulture.
Main duties include:
· Cultivation of vegetables and fruit
· Maintenance of topiary and hedges
· Pruning of trees, shrubs and climbers
· Upkeep of ornamental beds
· Glasshouse propagation
· Maintenance of lake
· Use of equipment and machinery
· General assistance with estate management
· Upkeep and development of woodland areas
You:
· A keen interest in gardening and grounds maintenance
· Must have a passion for plants
· Ability to undertake lifting and physical work
· Good written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to achieve Level 1 functional skills in Maths and English
· A willingness to learn and respond well to instruction
· Punctual, flexible and reliable
Apprenticeship Information
· L2 Horticulture/Landscape Operative apprenticeship
· Course Length 2 years
· Apprentices without level 2 English and maths must achieve level 1 and take the test for level 2 before taking the apprenticeship end-point assessment.
Other Qualifications you will gain:
· Emergency first aid: Level 3 award in emergency first aid at work
· Pesticides: Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance OR Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides
