Brief overview of the role
This role is within an Energy Underwriting team. You will assist the Underwriters with aggregation and exposure calculations and reporting. You will learn about Catastrophe modelling, aggregation exposure management, gathering and manipulating data to produce reports for the Underwriting team. This role will gain an understanding of the practices and exposures within the Energy Offshore, Onshore and Renewable Energy Insurance industry.
Energy Underwriting department duties to include:
· Assisting the Underwriter in completing Upstream and Renewable Energy Underwriting documentation, which will include manipulating and inputting data and then producing reports based on that data.
· Develop an understanding of Offshore, Onshore and Renewable Energy exploration and production activities and processes.
· Develop sufficient understanding and skills to allow data entry to BOUM Aggregation system.
· Learn about basic underwriting principles and factors used to assess risk
· Understand basic regulatory and compliance regulations involved in the underwriting process.
· Investigate, manipulate and correct large data sets, predominantly within Excel.
· By the end of this apprenticeship, this role will have taken ownership of reports and the data inputted to create them.
· This role will eventually provide regular reports and analysis to different management or leadership teams.
· Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in data sets.
· Support the generation of underwriting reports to the Upstream Energy team.
· Learn about the main stakeholder relationships in the Insurance process for example Insureds, Brokers, Loss Adjusters and Lawyers.
· Prepare and provide statistics and information to serve the requirements of the underwriting team.
· This role will gain experience within Excel, Power BI and several in house systems.
· Support the Underwriters and Exposure Analyst where necessary.
Desired skills
- Strong skill set with Microsoft Office suite – in particular Excel, Word.
- Excel ability - Individual must have good skills in the use of formulas and pivot tables, VBA or Macro ability is a bonus but not essential.
· The desire and ability to analyse data sets taking account of different data sets and seek to combine them.
- Must have an aptitude for math and technology-related tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Qualifications:
- 7 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grades 9-4 or A-C including maths and English
- 3 A Levels (or equivalent) at grades A*-C in any subject but preferably one in a numerical or computing subject (e.g. Maths, Science, Computer Science etc.)
