Job description
Clarkson Evans is the UK's leading electrical contractor and we were recently recognised as one of the country's most outstanding apprenticeship providers achieving 6th place in the Top 100 Apprentice Employers.
If you can offer us your enthusiasm, determination and commitment, in return we can offer you high quality site experience, excellent training, a bonus scheme where you are rewarded for your efforts, and the opportunity to build a long-term career with us.
During this four-year apprenticeship you’ll train to become a qualified electrician, with a focus on gaining the skills needed to wire new homes. Reporting to our Trowbridge branch, you’ll spend the majority of your time working on new housing sites in the local area. Whilst we always try our best to minimise travel distances and times, you could be expected to work on a site anywhere within a one-hour radius of the branch. One day a week will be dedicated to completing off-the-job training delivered through a mixture of remote learning (that you’ll access from home) and practical training at one of our training centres.
For the days you spend on site, you will work as part of a small team, wiring new homes from start to finish. Your team will include an experienced electrician and perhaps a second or third-year apprentice, who will help you build your skills over time so that you can complete a full electrical install and test for a wide range of new house types.
Our electrical teams normally work Monday to Friday, starting early (7am or sometimes before) and typically finishing late afternoon but working hours are not fixed so a flexible attitude is essential. At busy times of the year there will be a requirement to work late and at weekends but if you have the right mindset to be a successful apprentice with us you’ll relish the opportunity to be maximising your earnings through hard work.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an assessment morning with final interviews to follow.
Clarkson Evans is an equal opportunities employer and we’re proud of our fair and inclusive recruitment process. We recognise the benefits of having a diverse workforce and welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds. If you have any special requirements which would help you with our application process, please let us know by emailing [email protected].
Responsibilities
You’ll need to make a worthwhile contribution to the team from the start. Your team leader will provide support and instructions to nurture your skills development while you also need to challenge yourself and be hungry to learn quickly. Team spirit forms a big part of how we operate so every team member is responsible for maximising their positive impact on the team as a whole and demonstrating reliability and flexibility.
Required Skills and Attributes
All applicants must be over 18.
A full UK driving license is required.
Ideally we’re looking for GCSE grade Cs (or grade 4) or above in English, maths and a science but there may be some flexibility if you have relevant work experience.
Required Experience
Applicants are expected to have an interest in DIY or practical work.
Work experience is not essential but any experience you may have, particularly in a physically demanding role, will help demonstrate suitability for this apprenticeship with us.
