What do you need?
Entry requirements for this level 4 qualification are A Level DD or; BTEC National Diploma PPP or; Access to HE Diploma with 21 Merits or; level 3 Apprenticeship in related subject or equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 64 UCAS points.
Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
Whilst qualifications are important, we’re also looking for you to:
- Be a logical thinker and have a passion for finding solutions with an inquisitive mind.
- Passionate about the environment and have an awareness of your surroundings.
- Be an excellent communicator and be able to converse widely with various teams.
- Have great team working skills but also be able to work independently, putting customers at the heart of everything you do.
- Be focused, well organised, have excellent time management skills and the dedication to succeed.
- Able to prioritise effectively; managing the demands of study whilst being able to contribute effectively to the engineering team
- Preferably hold a full UK driving licence & If using your own vehicle, you will require business use on your insurance policy.
It’s a chance to work towards a level 4 Construction Design & Build Technician Apprenticeship Standard & HNC Construction whilst gaining experience in a relevant environment, you’ll get hands on experience 4 days a week and spend 1 day at London South Bank University a week gaining the theoretical background to your qualification.

As a Digital Engineer you will acquire the following expertise and be trained on:
- Wastewater systems & how they work.
- Software for the development of models & water quality modelling.
- How we treat our wastewater and put back into the environment
- Gravity, trickling and pumped systems
The training will be sufficient for you to attain Tech Eng / IEng CIWEM status. As part of this role you will also be given training and insight to IAM principles providing you with the breadth of knowledge & skills to extend out Modelling into wider Asset Management principles.
What’s in it for you?
This role is based in Reading. The starting salary will be from £20,000 with a yearly pay review and full studies funded by Thames Water. You’ll also receive 24 days holiday, pension and other benefits. Travel costs are covered for travel to and from your university studies.
