Alstom is the UK & Ireland’s leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Furthermore, having been selected as part of a joint venture to design, build and maintain the HS2 rolling stock, we have also been shortlisted for the corresponding signalling contract.
Our Signalling and Infrastructure business is underpinned by the winning of framework contracts for Network Rail’s, with a potential value of £750 million and the large Bristol Area Signalling Renewals and Enhancement project and the Leeds Station Capacity Upgrade Programme.

The Opportunity:
This role is based at our Birmingham site.
You can join a world leading engineering company where you will work be working alongside the Planning Team to support them in the development and maintenance of project programmes, establish and update project progress against plan and carry out analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Over an 18-month programme, you will combine academic college studies with real life work-based experience across our organisation. You will be involved in assisting with the preparation and maintenance of integrated and co-ordinated project programmes, and will be responsible for collecting project progress information, using Primavera P6 Planning software, MS Excel and other tools to track and measure progress.
Your day to day activities can also include:
- Assist in developing comprehensive, logic linked, project programmes for UK SS&I projects incorporating resource planning, materials planning, cost-loading and earned value forecasting and reporting.
- Work with all disciplines to ensure that project progress is accurately captured and reported through the programme.
- Assist with monitoring the programmes against baseline to maintain accurate earned value and resource data for internal and external purposes.
- Work with the Head of Planning and Planning Managers in the production and maintenance of dashboard reporting – tracking KPIs at project, portfolio and business level.
- Travel when required to other sites across the country.
- Occasional weekend/bank holiday cover for any major commissionings.
Requirements of the role:
- 3x A Levels or equivalent including Business, Computer Science or IT, or a BTEC National Diploma in Business/IT
- 5x GCSEs at Grades 5-9 including English and Maths
The candidate must also be highly proficient in IT, with the right attitude and adherence towards safety is highly important. They should also be able to demonstrate a logical way of thinking and be very strong at analysing information from multiple sourcs, with strong communication skills both written and verbal.
