We are offering exiting opportunity to join the Therapeutic Radiographer team at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) and become an Assistant Practitioner working in the Pre-treatment team.
Pre-treatment is the patient's first experience through their Radiotherapy journey. The patient will be assessed and prepared for a CT planning scan and or area treatment confirmed. This stage is a vital, as pre-treatment is where all the information is gathered to plan a patient's treatment.
On the job training will be providing along with our academic partner University of Derby through the apprenticeship scheme.
We are looking to recruit caring, highly motivated, organised and academically self-sufficient individual to join our team.
The Therapeutic Radiographers are a friendly and committed team at the UHD Radiotherapy Service situated at Poole Hospital, with a satellite centre in Dorset County Hospital.
At UHD we provide the only Radiotherapy service for Dorset. To care for our patients we offer a wide range of different modern techniques using the latest technology and clinical procedures.
The apprenticeship is a joint 2 year programme with University of Derby. At the end of your studies you will qualify with a foundation degree. You will be supported in the department by our dedicated practice educator and the rest of the staff and specific learning will be provided by the University. As an apprentice you will be provided with dedicated study time of 7.5 hours per week.

To learn and undertake, under supervision, all required the required radiographic techniques outlined in the apprenticeship program to support the pre-treatment team.
To support the Pre-treatment Therapeutic Radiographers in the clinical mark up of treatments
To support and assist the radiographers in required day-to-day service.
Correctly identify patients from waiting room and escort to any clinical environment.
Escort patients to and from other areas of the department or wards if required.
Assist mould room staff with clinical mark ups and the manufacture of patient specific immobilisation devices procedures.
Check and support patients in preparing for pre-treatment procedures
Perform cannulations and load injector pumps
The Radiotherapy department is the sole provider of Radiotherapy in Dorset. Radiotherapy requires high levels of technical ability coupled with a passion for providing the highest levels of care. It is a dynamic work pace and you will be working with highly trained friendly and professional staff group. You will need to work in a team and with staff from other departments to ensure the patients receive the highest standards or care.

The purpose of the Apprenticeship AP is to complete a 2-year University led training program supported by extensive workplace learning and practice, to qualify as an AP in Pre-treatment.
During training, the Apprentice AP will work as part of the Radiotherapy workforce in Pre-treatment, supporting HCPC radiographers to deliver high quality, person centred, and compassionate care to patients.
