Job Description:

Apprentice Animal Technician

We are seeking to appoint an apprentice animal technician to be part of a team capable of working flexibly and knowledgeably with wildlife, livestock, laboratory, and invertebrate species.

This is a great opportunity to work as part of the Animal Science and Technology Team (AST) in a leading facility in the UK for wildlife, environmental, and food production animal research. This team provides both animal and invertebrate husbandry, supporting the delivery of high value research, emergency response, regulatory portfolio submission, and solutions to customers such as the UK government, regulatory authorities, and industry. Please note, staff will be required to take part in a rota system for weekend and public holiday working as well as to provide additional out of hours support when required.

Job Role:

  • Assist with daily husbandry tasks for a variety of species, maintaining the highest standards of animal care and welfare
  • Prepare animal housing, cage and pen cleaning, and maintain animal facilities to a set standard
  • Assist with maintaining conventional animal breeding programmes, ensuring accurate records for colony management
  • Maintain daily accurate record keeping for animals and environment
  • Assist with the management of studies
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with defined study plans
  • Support with the culture of various insect species
