Job description
TaxAssist Accountants specialises in providing accountancy services, tax returns, payroll, bookkeeping and tax advice to small businesses, as well as taxpayers needing a tax return. We are currently looking for an Apprentice Accounts Assistant to join our Grantham office team. This is an office-based position.
What will the apprentice be doing?
- Processing sales & purchase invoices
- Processing receipts and payments
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Preparation and submission of Self Assessment tax returns
- Assisting in the preparation of sole trader accounts
- Communicate and liaise between clients/visitors/enquirers and staff face to face, by phone and by email
- Interpret and respond clearly and effectively to spoken requests over the phone or in person, and to verbal or written instructions
- Manage, organise and update relevant data using database applications
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public
- Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures
- Adhere to procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment and materials for which the role has responsibility
- Plus other duties consistent with the grade as directed
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- AAT Level 2 certificate in Accounting
- Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship
- Functional Skills (maths and English) if required
- Training delivered one day per week at Grantham College and University Centre (Stonebridge Road, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG31 9AP)
- In-house training programme and ongoing CPD
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the opportunity for the role to develop with experience and for the individual to progress and grow with the business, supported by our in-house training programme. We are looking to make this a permanent role for the right candidate.

Qualifications
- GCSE or equivalent in maths (grade C / 4 or above) essential
- GCSE or equivalent in English (grade C / 4 or above) essential
- GCSE or equivalent in ICT (grade C / 4 or above) essential
- Two other GCSEs at grade C / 4 or above
Things to consider
This is an office-based role dealing with clients and potential clients face-to-face. The business is an essential service and remained open during the lockdowns and will continue to do so.

Contract length: 12 months
