THE BENEFITS OF CITY EMPLOYMENT:

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Department Application Specialist responsibilities include installing, configuring, diagnosing, and troubleshooting complex specialized computer software applications and related hardware that are critical to the mission of a specific department or division.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill a current vacancy in the Recreation and Parks Department. The eligible list resulting from this recruitment will be used to fill future vacancies in other City departments.
THE CURRENT VACANCY:
In the Recreation and Parks Department, the Department Application Specialist will configure, maintain and support Xplore Recreation (formerly Perfect Mind), the City's enterprise recreation management system. Xplor Recreation manages all recreation-related financial transactions, merchant banking, customer accounts, rentals and reservations in facilities and parks, activity bookings, and integrates with City-wide financial systems. The DAS will also support a variety of recreation Software as a Service (SaaS) systems utilized by the Department and participate in strategic discussions of information technology within Recreation.

THE SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process will include a minimum qualifications assessment, and may also include an application and supplemental questionnaire review, followed by department selection interviews.
- Install, configure, update, and maintain specialized department software and related hardware
- Analyze and/or resolve hardware, software, and application problems as required to ensure the continued use of a specialized departmental application
- Monitor computer systems, networks, and applications for response time, problem prevention, performance and resource utilization
- Coordinate the resolution of network hardware, software and application problems between City and Departmental technical, support and customer personnel
- Create reports, perform queries, and validate data
- Modify data fields in specialized software to meet department information needs
- Create technical documents and computer training materials, and train users in use of the specialized department software
- Identify problems, and consult with vendor support to request technical solutions to specific user needs
- Research, recommend and implement solutions to more effectively utilize specialized department software and hardware to accomplish department goals or improve department efficiency
- Perform physical inventories of equipment and supplies
Ability to: Communicate clearly and tactfully on the telephone, in person or a class room; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; analyze data, work methods and procedures; analyze, diagnose and resolve customer problems; operate computer master console and other help desk equipment; prepare and present written and oral reports; organize and manage multiple priorities; learn to write application scripts, system utilities and the methods and techniques of using a variety of hardware and software products to meet department needs.
