Department Description:
The Stanford Apheresis unit is a comprehensive specialized procedural service providing complex care to both Stanford Health Care (SHC) and Lucile Packard Children’s hospital (LPCH) in-patient and outpatient populations. Three dedicated medical directors assist the unit in providing services to multiple medical groups to include Neurology, Renal, Bone Marrow Transplant, Dermatology, Hematology/Oncology, Cardiology, Heart and Lung Transplant to name a few.

A Brief Overview
Develops and maintains the Quality Management Plan for the Apheresis Program that is compliant with all regulatory agencies including, Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American Association of Blood Banks, Department of Health and Safety, The Joint Commission and Stanford Health Care policies and procedures.

What you will do

  • Oversees standard work being created in regards to Apheresis clinical trials and cellular therapy.
  • Develops, implements and monitors compliance with standard operating procedures covering all critical aspects of the Apheresis Program.
  • Generates recommendations to address deficiencies in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Serves as the main SHC contact for all regulatory surveys.
  • Serves as the educator for new staff and directs training for all new and current employees.
  • Ensures that all equipment maintenance and repairs are current and ongoing, working with Biomedical Engineering to ensure equipment maintenance is current and repairs are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Monitors, audits and updates regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).
  • Serves as point person for transitioning paper based orders to EPIC.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited academic institute


Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years in a healthcare related field
  • Five (5) years comprehensive/complex Apheresis RN experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in oncology and bone marrow transplantation.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of JCAHO and FACT requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and writing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (excel and word) and strong analytic abilities.
  • Working knowledge of software applications commonly used at SHC.
  • Previous experience in managing process improvement efforts and change implementation.


Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $68.38 - $90.62 per hour
