The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) is a partnership between Bridgend Council, Cardiff Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council to deliver the Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Licensing functions.
This is a varied and interesting role working within the Enterprise and Specialist Services sector of the Shared Regulatory Service. Working across the Bridgend, Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan region. The successful candidate will undertake the full range of duties required of this role, including the collection of stray dogs and other animals; inspection of animal related licensed premises such as kennels, stables and pet shops and promotion of responsible animal ownership through talks and participation in events.
The vacancy has arisen within our (Environment) Team on a temporary (up to 12 months basis), to cover the secondment of the post holder into another role.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 6, SCP 14 - 19 £25,409- £27,852p.a
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours flexible working (part time/job share applications will be considered)
Main Place of Work: Bridgend/Cardiff/Vale of Glamorgan, office locations and home working.
Temporary Reason: Secondment of the post holder
- To enforce the Councils’ statutory duties in respect of the collection /seizure of stray dogs and other animals
- To conduct regular patrols, serve notices as appropriate and return animals to owners or designated kenneling facilities
- To investigate complaints and enforcement of legislation in respect of dangerous dogs
- To inspect animal related premises such as kennels, stables, dog breeding establishments, horse riding establishments and pet shops prior to their being licensed; and deal with complaints about such premises and matters requiring investigation / enforcement as they arise.
- To promote responsible animal ownership at every opportunity, including on an individual basis, through educational talks and participation in multiagency initiatives (for example micro chipping
About you
You will need :
- Some previous experience as a Dog Warden or Animal Warden.
- Experience of handling dogs and other animals.
- Knowledge of dog related enforcement legislation
- Certified Dog Warden training from a recognised organisation
- The ability to deal with a wide range of people and situations
- The ability to drive / travel throughout, Bridgend / Cardiff / Vale or between locations if appropriate.
- The ability to work outside normal office hours from time to time, to meet the needs of the service.
