Ponderosa Zoo is looking for a new Animal Keeper to join the team here in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. We keep over 130 animals ranging from Scottish Wildcats to Reindeer. We are continually evolving, and this is an exciting opportunity to join the team of an expanding Zoo.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily husbandry of a variety of our mammal, bird, and reptile species. You should also be confident when interacting with customers as this role involves delivering animal talks and educational lessons. As we are a small team, you should expect to also assist in a range of other tasks such as litter picking, car park duties and grounds maintenance tasks when necessary.
We are asking for at least 1 years’ paid experience working in a Zoo environment as well as an animal related qualification. Good time keeping, positive attitude and being a team player are essential to this role. This role is physically demanding so you must be physically fit to effectively carry out the zoo keeping tasks.
A full UK’s driver’s license is essential.
You will work 5 days per week on a rota basis, including bank holidays, school holidays and weekends. The hours in total are 42.5 hours.
