RSPCA Llys Nini Branch - Cardiff to Swansea is a small business in Swansea. We are rewarding, engaging and our goal is to RSPCA Llys Nini provides animal welfare throughout Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, parts of Rhondda Cynon Taff and Cardiff council areas. Llys Nini helps over 2,000 animals each year. Its main aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abused and unwanted animals.
Purpose of the job
Facilitate animal rehoming. Provide care for the animals in the Centre. Establish good customer relations, maximise adoption opportunities and maintain administration procedures.
Key Accountabilities
1. Carry out/record health checks on animals, including the taking of temperature and inspection of eyes, ears, nose and throat for signs of infection or abnormality reporting any significant issues to the appropriate team leader.
2. Ensure animals are up to date with vaccinations, de-fleaing and worming
3. Keep thorough records of each animal using diaries, boards, computer systems and other documentation in accordance with procedures and data protection legislation.
4. Carry out assessments of the animals in your care, highlighting any behaviour or welfare concerns to centre’s team leaders. Under supervision of the team leaders, implement and assist with Behaviour Modification Programmes.
Principle Duties
1. Proactivity engaging with members of the public, always acknowledging customer presence in the rehoming centre. Work as part of a team delivering the highest level of customer service, discussing applications to adopt in person or over the phone, answering queries and matching and rehoming animals effectively including translating animals character assessments to customers
2. Administer medications as prescribed by the attending veterinary surgeon
3. Prepare and provide food and water for animals in the Centre
4. Clean, disinfect and maintain animal accommodation, exercise areas, kitchens, stores, utility areas, etc to the standard set by management
5. Ensure positive welfare for each animal in your care through play, enrichment, exercise, socialisation and training.
6. Ensure animals coats are maintained by way of grooming/bathing
7. Support and coach volunteers, placement and newly appointed members of staff.
8. Assist with stock rotation
9. Report defects, including H&S issues, to the appropriate team leader in line with duty of care.
10. Cleaning of staff and public areas as rotad.
11. Secure blocks and animals at end of working day
12. Provide animals with enrichment, behavioural training etc.
13. Attend and participate in any training considered appropriate by the Centre Manager
14. Assist and participate in any fundraising or publicity event that the Centre Manager considers appropriate.
15. Any other duties, including those of the Receptionist, as required from time to time by your line Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Job Title –Animal Rehoming Assistant
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
▪ Literacy and numeracy. Able to understand written documentation and keep accurate records.
▪ GCSE English and Maths NVQ Level 2 Customer Care or equivalent
▪ NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent (Desirable)
EXPERIENCE AND JOB KNOWLEDGE
▪ Working with the public
▪ Working as part of a team
▪ Knowledge and experience in an animal care environment (Desirable)
PROFESSIONAL / TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
▪ Customer Care skills/qualifications
▪ Excellent communication skills including telephone, oral and written
▪ Excellent administrative skills
▪ Ability to prioritise workload in a fast moving environment
▪ Experience of supervising/training others (Desirable)
▪ Knowledge and experience in animal behaviour and animal husbandry as it relates to dogs and cats or other domestic animals. (Desirable)
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
▪ Good interpersonal skills as evidenced by past experience
▪ IT skills (ability to use word, excel, databases, email)
▪ Administration.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
▪ Physically fit to lift and carry 15kg load within the constraints of manual handling good practice

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months
Part-time hours: 15 per week
Salary: £10.90 per hour
