Animal Care Assistant Chester-le-Street, England

RSPCA
Full Time Chester-le-Street, England 18018 - 19953 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Passionate about animal welfare and looking for a new o-purr-tunity?

Want to work somewhere you can make a real difference?

We're recruiting an Animal Care Assistant to join us at our Felledge Animal Centre on a part time (17.5 hours per week averaged over a 2 week rosta) 16 month contract basis where you'll be:

  • Providing care for all animals in the centre
  • Establishing good customer relations
  • Maintaining administration and health and safety procedures.

Our vision is a society where no animal suffers unnecessarily. Some animals that come to us have been mistreated, kept in awful conditions or left without free access to food or water. They may arrive terrified and it's up to us to try and work out why and bring them round to trusting people again. We do this on a daily basis with a dedicated team that we're extremely proud of.

We work from 0830 to 1630, with alternate weekends on a two week rota pattern with regular week days off either side of the weekend you work.

Here's a snapshot of some of the key work you'll be doing:

  • Cleaning animal accommodation for cats and dogs to the required standard set by the RSPCA
  • Preparing and providing food and water for all animals in the establishment
  • Performing regular health checks on all animals and giving medical treatments as prescribed by the Centre's consulting Veterinary Surgeon
  • Attending to the needs of the individual animals including providing exercise/socialisation and grooming for all animals within the care of the Centre
  • Communicating with members of the public, representing the RSPCA positively and professionally at all times.
  • Working as part of a team with staff and volunteers
  • Completing all relevant animal paperwork and updating the Centres computer data base for all animals held on site

What we are looking for in you:

We think this is a great role and to add value we are seeking a match of these skills, but don't worry if you don't tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you.

  • Experience working with domestic animals (good animal handling skills are essential!)
  • Good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Good customer care skills
  • Animal care qualifications are desirable

So if this sounds of interest to you we can't wait to see your application - remember to really bring your skills to life on the application form in terms of your animal handling skills and why you'd be a great new team member. This is a popular role so it's great to hear why you stand out above others!

Our values:

We are compassionate * We are inspirational * We are committed * We are expert * We act with integrity.

What's in it for you

You'll have an opportunity to work for the largest animal welfare charity in England & Wales.

We value and recognise our employees' contribution and are proud to offer an extensive benefits package that includes:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays increasing to 31 days with service (pro rata)
  • A generous pension scheme with associated life assurance and group income protection scheme
  • Access to private healthcare scheme
  • Access to our employee assistance programme
