Are you looking to contribute to a vital mission to save lives and improve health outcomes for UK citizens?
We are looking for a Grade 6 Team Leader within the All Hazards Intelligence Directorate (AHI). Team leaders will oversee and coordinate analysis to inform assessment of hazards and threats to UK health security and public health. AHI is part of the Data Analytics and Surveillance Group (DAS), within the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA), whose mission is to provide health security for the nation by protecting from infectious disease and external hazards.
The role is Analytical Team Leader for National Health Hazards. This post will require outstanding leadership to manage a team of highly-motivated and skilled health analysts, data scientists, and epidemiologists to deliver maximum impact and value.
This high-profile role ensures Ministers, CMOs and senior decision makers are serviced with timely, informative and accurate strategic insights from data to enable decision making for COVID and wider key health issues.
You will join a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and continual opportunities for improvement. Our teams are responsible for reporting across a range of public health issues which requires leading the creation of analysis from the team and also coordination and synthesis of analytical outputs from across a wide range of stakeholders across UKHSA and the wider public health family.

Main Duties of the Job
Key responsibilities include
- Provide leadership for a team of team of analysts and data scientists to develop and deliver a range of analysis and data products on health security and public health threats in the UK.
- Supervise a commissioning and synthesis of a variety of analytical work from other teams to support thematic and risk assessments of key public health issues to inform response and policy activity.
- Communicate and clearly present key insights, up to the most senior levels, from a variety of analytical sources
- Successfully manage your time and the priorities of your team, working at pace to progress multiple competing tasks to deliver high quality and timely products for customers and seniors.
- Supervise the capture, collation, and analysis of data on a variety of public health issues, from a range of sources including UKHSA held datasets, NHS data, open-source, bilaterally shared or cross Whitehall partners.
- Supervising the development of, and where appropriate delivering, briefings for the UK’s Chief Medical Officers, their Scientific Advisers, Ministers and other senior decision makers.
- Supporting the Division and Directorate on responses to Parliamentary Questions and FOI requests on risk assessment and border measures, in addition to supporting Covid Inquiry as required.
- Developing the analytical capability across the Division and wider Directorate.
- Building and sustaining key partnerships, within UKHSA, nationally and internationally.
- Supporting wider corporate transformation as a member of the senior leadership team.

Person specification
Essential criteria:
- Experience of leading strategic decision support, ideally in a health or national security environment.
- Proven assessment and analytical skills and ensuring analytical outputs (including complex data and analysis) are policy suitable and have clear ‘so what’ implications for decision-making.
- Experienced manager and leader of a teams, demonstrating competencies expected at Grade 6 level. This includes inspiring and motivating staff, promoting diversity, building capability, innovation and managing conflicting pressures.
- Experience of working at pace to deadlines across multiple projects, being flexible and adaptable to change.
- Ability to develop strong positive working relationships with stakeholders quickly to enable effective working across teams and organisations to coordinate activity.
- Ability to communicate and influence seniors and peers.
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral), personal resilience and the ability to deliver at pace on competing priorities in a challenging and complex environment
Desirable skills / experience / knowledge:
- Experience of project management – able to manage and oversee large work programmes – ensuring projects deliver to time and specification.
- Experience producing PowerPoint presentations, knowledge of SharePoint, MS Teams and proficient in IT systems.
- Qualification or membership of Professional analysis bodies.
- DV clearance or willingness to undergo the vetting process to obtain DV clearance

Reserve List:
Candidates who pass the interview criteria but are not offered a post will be kept on a reserve list for 12 months and may be contacted if similar roles become available.
