The Planning, Performance and Strategic Change Division of the University of Nottingham is looking for a new member of its Statutory Student Data team. We seek motivated, curious, problem-solving individuals who can see the big picture while still paying attention to the finest detail, work to high standards, and like working with people like this.

Our Statutory Student Data team is responsible for all the major statutory student returns (HESA, HESES, etc), for optimising the impact of those returns and for using the resultant data to support the University. In addition, the team are designing, implementing and refining a new data process to support HESA Data Futures. The team uses a mix of data tools, including Alteryx for data preparation and blending and Tableau for visualisation. Previous experience in this specific software is not essential to the role, just enthusiasm to learn.

You will probably already have had a role in student data in higher education and have knowledge of at least some significant statutory returns. You will certainly be able to get to grips with the detail quickly and understand the ways of working necessary to create accurate returns. You will be highly proficient in managing and manipulating data and you will be familiar with modern tools and technologies used in data storage, blending, and analysis. You will have a strong aptitude for IT generally, be creative in overcoming difficulties and comfortable with learning and becoming expert in new technologies. However, the right aptitudes are more important than years of experience in the higher education sector.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also important, as team members may meet with internal clients and partners to develop understanding of statutory data returns and gather and develop requirements for using statutory data. You will be as comfortable getting deep into data as explaining issues to non-specialists in a clear and concise way.

This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours), however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 21.75 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Emily Titmuss, email [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
