Role Purpose
The Private Capital group (PCG) is responsible for HSBC’s priority private equity clients. Within PCG, we are looking to recruit an Analyst to support the continued growth of the team, which focuses on the units of these clients that invest in alternative assets, mainly engaging with them around traditional buy-outs (public/private), Leveraged finance and Equity capital market transactions, in addition to providing support to clients’ ongoing portfolio work, including potential exits, refinancing, etc.
The role will involve working directly on the origination and execution of a wide range of Capital Markets and M&A Advisory transactions, as well as working closely with colleagues to coordinate the global coverage of our private equity clients across all products and sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Participate and later on lead deal / pitch related financial analysis, including valuation work, modelling, data mining and other relevant work streams.
- Identify marketing opportunities, including undertaking appropriate preparation of proposals and presentations for new business.
- Act as primary point of contact for clients and internal colleagues, and effectively manage the desk, in absence of team colleagues.
- Liaise with members of HSBC’s product and sector teams, ensuring a co-ordinated approach to enhance client relationships.
- Develop and maintain client plans.
- Over time, build relationships with key individuals at our priority clients.
- Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved.
- Undertake all required activities as directed by line manager or as agreed in annual objectives in support and development the PCG business.
- Manage and build complex data bases, using different information sources available to the team
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- An enthusiastic Analyst with the willingness and ability to learn and develop, as part of a well-established team.
- Strong technical capabilities, with ability to undertake financial analyses, including LBO modelling and additional data driven work streams.
- Solid business understanding, with ability to analyse past / projected business performance.
- A commercial outlook with business development skills and the ability to quickly build positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Must be highly organised and able to solve problems proactively, with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience in investment banking is an advantage.
- An excellent team player with the willingness to take on responsibility and develop as a leader.
- Strong IT skills (Excel, PowerPoint, FactSet, etc).
- Familiarity with accounting rules and methodologies an advantage (though not a must).
- Knowledge of HSBC’s products and services an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and familiarity with the private equity universe an advantage.
