Position Overview:
Neuberger Berman and its insurance-linked strategies team (“NB ILS”) are seeking an Analyst. NB ILS specializes in insurance-linked investments, with a focus on natural event risk strategies via ILWs, catastrophe bonds & other risk-transfer instruments including parametric insurance.
The role will sit within the NB ILS analytics function as part of a team of four.
The role will involve liaising with all the team’s members located in London, New York and Bermuda, whilst providing support for activities across underwriting, portfolio management and investor relations. The role sits at the intersection between catastrophe risk modeling and data analytics, with room for the individual to use their own experience to improve and expand current risk modeling techniques used by the team. The role would suit a driven individual with previous catastrophe modeling experience, an innovative approach to problem solving, and a desire to work in the ILS investor space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing analytical support to underwriters, traders, and portfolio managers.
- Assisting with the analysis and modeling on catastrophe reinsurance and retrocession opportunities, capital market transactions and other risk-transfer products.
- Using third party vendor models, as well as proprietary tools, to effectively extract, manipulate and visualize data to support transaction and portfolio level decisions.
- Maintaining and analysing data sources used to manage portfolio risk exposures, track real-time event losses, and investor reports.
- Contributing to the suite of proprietary analytical tools developed by the team.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience working in asset management, insurance and/or reinsurance is preferred but applications from another related industry (e.g., catastrophe modeling)
- A master’s degree, with a concentration in science, mathematics, statistical techniques, or computer science.
- Knowledge of financial markets is helpful but not required. However, a willingness to expand knowledge of financial markets is required – eg CFA or similar
- Coding/data manipulation (Advanced Excel, R, SQL, or Python) experience is preferred.
