Genome Analyst
Temporary Full-time Opportunity
Anticipated term: June 2023 – June 2024
We are seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual to join Dr. T Bhanu Prasad Medical Prof Corp as a Genome Analyst.
Your role will be to support the interpretation and reporting of genetic variants AND/OR to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the clinical next generation sequencing (NGS) bioinformatic infrastructure.
What you’ll do
- Analyze genomic data, including compiling written and oral data in an organized approach, necessary to provide accurate and timely information to guide diagnostics, interventions and policy.
- Support the integration, development, and/or maintenance of bioinformatics tools and pipeline(s).
- Keep accurate records of data collected for evaluation and validation and prepare data for review and approval.
- Facilitate sequencing and genomics analysis.
- Create, support, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for workflows and pipelines.
- Assist Medical and Operational staff in accreditation processes and the maintenance of a quality system in the laboratory.
- Support assessment of technology to enable a thorough comparison of software and associated infrastructure available on the market, in conjunction with Operational leaders, Laboratory Scientists, and Laboratory Geneticists.
- Working collaboratively with health authorities to establish provincial standards and guidelines, leading pilot projects, writing, obtaining, and maintaining ethics, ensuring compliance with study protocols and timelines, overseeing the privacy and secure storage of data, records, and documents.
- Provide necessary work outputs in a timely manner as requested and required.
- Effectively establish work scope, timelines, work plans, and accountabilities for self and team members to ensure quality and clarity of scope for projects.
- Work with the Principal Investigator to improve the quality, quantity, and success of research projects.
What you bring
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a PhD in medical genomics, human genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, biochemistry genetics, computer science, or information technology (or related discipline), plus three to five (3-5) years of recent related experience.
- Exceptional MSc candidates with five to seven (5-7) years of relevant work experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in utilizing and applying bioinformatic tools and databases, and in compiling written and oral data in an organized approach necessary for the prioritization and interpretation of genetic variants.
- Proficiency in computing including R, Python, or related programming and analysis tools.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work with individuals at all levels throughout the organization.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of stakeholders.
- Preference will be given to those with relevant experience within a clinical environment.
- The ideal candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in genomic analysis/interpretation AND/OR in development/validation of clinical bioinformatic tools and pipelines.
