Air Safety Support International (ASSI) is a not-for-profit, wholly-owned, subsidiary company of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, established under Directions from the United Kingdom's Department for Transport. The company's primary objective is to help provide a more cohesive system of civil aviation safety regulation in the United Kingdom Overseas Territories (OTs).

ASSI is responsible for regulating the industry in some OTs as well as supporting OT existing Civil Aviation Authorities in the safety and security regulation of all aspects of civil aviation, including the licensing of personnel and the certification of aircraft, airlines, airports and air traffic control.

The Role

We are looking for an Airworthiness Surveyor to join our small team based in Crawley. You will enhance aviation safety and protect the public by ensuring that the UK Government can continue to be satisfied that airport and aircraft operations in the OTs are being carried out in accordance with international safety requirements.

You will carry out audits of service providers, be involved in assessments of OT Civil Aviation Authorities and develop new regulatory policies, requirements and practices for the OTs. You will provide advice to Governors and Ministers within the Territories and have autonomy to use your expertise and experience to deal with novel situations.

You will use your airworthiness expertise to coach colleagues and to contribute to the wider objectives of ASSI. You will also be expected to give direct support to activities of other technical specialists, as required, in ensuring that the UK’s international responsibilities to ICAO are being fully met across the OTs.

About You

  • In this role you will be expected to travel overseas approximately 4/5 times a year for around a week at a time. You will be dealing with challenging situations so the ability to adapt to those situations is a must.
  • You will have: -
    • Significant relevant experience in aircraft maintenance or manufacturing industry, ideally with an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Licence.
    • Regulatory experience of overseeing maintenance and continued airworthiness approvals, including SMS and QMS systems, with a proportionate risk-based approach.
    • A high standard of education, equivalent to HNC/Degree level.
    • Supervisory or Quality Assurance experience.
    • A detailed knowledge of international aviation regulatory requirements and the aircraft / aviation industry.
    • Knowledge of Information Technology and Information Management Systems as applied within the aviation industry.
    • Ability to operate in a wide range of cultural business environments at all levels.
    • Capable of using experience and making sound judgments, with an ability to think laterally to identify the wider implications of decisions making.
    • Able to challenge information, propositions or assumptions, often of a deep technical nature and across a range of disciplines, affecting safety.

What can we offer you?

Being an equal opportunity employer, we actively encourage and support applications from all backgrounds. If you have a disability or special need that requires adjustments, please let us know.
