Job description
The Airfield Supervisor (AS) has day- to-day oversight for all front-line airfield safety and operational activities and will be the designated point of contact for all stakeholders. The AS is responsible for maintaining a safe environment by ensuring that relevant assets and infrastructure are operated safely in line with the requirements of the Aerodrome regulations.
The AS is accountable for ensuring the effective deployment of relevant resources including staffing and assets of the Airfield Safety Unit.
In the event of an emergency situation, business disruption, airside incidents and unplanned events, the AS will support the Airfield Duty Manager (ADM) in co-ordinating the operational response and subsequent follow up actions.
The role of AS is key to the ensuring the effective delivery of BAL’s Safety Management System (SMS) and will work closely with and deputise for the ADM to ensure that the Airfield Safety Unit meet agreed SPI’s and objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Management
Ensuring the effective implementation of the Wildlife and Habitat Management Plan through guiding and supporting the ASO role when required and ensuring any risks or hazards are highlighted to the ADM without delay
Supporting the ADM as directed during times of winter operations and airfield emergencies, including continuous application and review of processes contained with Snow Plan and Emergency Plan
Oversight of all Aerodrome (Airside) Works to ensure they are carried out in accordance with aerodrome procedures. This includes the issuance of Airfield Permit to Works and post works inspections
Attendance and participation in safety meetings as required
Undertake toolbox talks and daily shift briefings as required
Ensure Low Visibility Procedures are implemented in accordance with procedure
Publish NOTAM’s and TOI’s as directed
Contribute towards effective safety investigations by responding as required and ensuring all supporting evidence is gathered by the ASO without delay. Where necessary submit Mandatory Occurrence Reports (MOR) in accordance with reporting timescales
Ensure all near misses and hazards are identified and reported by the team
Participate and actively contribute towards safety promotion activities and events
Support the ADM with co-ordinating daily activities of the duty team on and around the airfield to ensure that a safe, efficient and effective airside operation is maintained.
Report findings and trends to the ADM following the completion of safety and compliance audits and inspections as required. Implementing recommended actions and mitigations as requested
Provide airfield boundary assurances through the undertaking of mandatory security patrols
Assist the ADM by identifying and recording hazards and risks and participating in forming action plans to mitigate risks identified
Participate in BAL’s Change Management including contributing towards Hazard and Risk Analysis (HARP’s) when required.
Maintain an accurate log of all operational events and occurrences
Contribute towards the continuous review of all relevant documentation with respect to operational activities of the Airfield Safety Unit.
Demonstrate knowledge of Civil Aviation regulations through implementation of changes, application of tasks and continued learning
Performance
Ensure that all daily duties of the Airfield Safety Officers are completed in accordance with the SMS and company procedures
Contribute towards achieving KPI’s and SPI’s as published in the annual Aerodrome
Safety Plan along with other safety initiatives as required
Ensure all daily objectives of the Airside Safety Unit are met as agreed
Assist in the development of safety performance initiatives and continuous improvement airside.
Leading the Team
Practice competent knowledge of “Just Culture” principles and ensure these are demonstrated by the team.

Ensuring that all members of the team are competent and current to undertake their duties as part of the ASU maintenance of competency scheme

Managing the Facility
Responsible for ensuring that the ASU fulfil their daily responsibilities as defined within
BAL’s FOD prevention programme
Ensure that all unserviceable assets are removed from the operation and reported in line with company procedure
-Ensure all daily movement area inspections are completed in line with local procedure
Any other duties commensurate to the role as required
