Royal Air Force Coningsby is one of the UK’s two Quick Reaction Alert Interceptor (QRA(I)) Stations. Employed in Air Operations in the Wing Operations Centre. We are staffed 24 hours a day providing vital support to QRA(I) operations. We also provide direct support to Test and Evaluation, Front Line and Training Typhoon Squadrons. Uniquely, we also support the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The work is fast paced and requires logical thinking and the ability to multi task and work in a small team. A can do demeanour is key!
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Directing a team of 2 Flight Planning Specialists and one Duty Operations Specialist. Ensuring that all staff work accurately and efficiently, guiding junior staff to enable them to provide the best possible service to both RAF Coningsby Aircrew and military/civilian visiting aircrew.
Following selection to the Assurance Team: Carry Out initial validation of both military and civilian personnel to ensure that they are working to the required standard to achieve initial validation and re-validate all personnel annually.
Following appointment to the Training Team you will carry out the on the job training of both ab-initio and more experienced staff, enabling them to reach validation standard within approved time scales.
There will also be the opportunity to be selected ic ASOS Assurance or ic ASOS training. Both roles involve the overseeing of the respective areas including planning assurance/training timetables. Compiling documentation accurately and completed within required time scales. To enable senior management oversite of the Assurance and Training systems.
Carry out notification procedures for ac emergencies and incidents. Ensure that the Crisis Management Centre is activated to support Emergency Service management.
Administrative action for and support to QRA(I) S.
In consultation with the DOC, book and promulgate diversions. Publish the Station Recovery State. Monitor current and forecast weather for Coningsby and its diversions making changes to diversion and recovery state and informing all airfield users of the changes. Publish all activity to interested parties.
Take Bookings and issue approval for civil and military ac visiting the Station.
Daily, ensure that NOTAMS added to the TyAMPA mission planning system have been entered accurately and carry out data back-ups. Operate the station Flight Planning Facility
Gain approval for armed aircraft diversion requests to and from Coningsby.
Hand back airspace not required by the flying Squadrons to Swanwick Mil
Person specification
The role requires you to be a current Aerospace Operations Specialist (ASOS) or if not current to have completed the ASOS training course at RAF Shawbury within the last 5 years. If either of the conditions are not met, then the successful candidate must complete course at the earliest opportunity. Following completion of the course you would then need to complete an on-the-job training package and be validated by a member of the Section Assurance Team; subsequently completing Assurance checks satisfactorily on a yearly basis.
You will be required to work a shift pattern which requires both day and night work covering 2 days 2 nights and 4 days off. The post is classed as full time and is not suitable for a work from home arrangement.
