Job description
What you’ll be doing
As an Agricultural and Soils Scientist you’ll be working alongside our Environmental team helping to deliver the biggest civils infrastructure project in the UK.
Some of the duties you will have include:
- Helps develop robust and comprehensive training workshops on Soil Handling Management working collaboratively with the whole project team (DJV & BBV);
- Accountable for fit for purpose methodology and assumptions that can withstand external scrutiny.
- Support site activities for soil stripping, aftercare and restoration.
- Provide support for BBV construction - review of ITPs (Inspection Test Plans) on soil Handling Management & Restoration
- Support for Soil surveys for farm holding Who were looking for
The ideal candidate for the role would have the below:
• Member of a Landscape/Soil & Agriculture professional body; • An understanding of stripping, movement and storage of soil resources in construction projects;
- Experienced with dealing with Farmers, landowners and Statutory bodies (such as Natural England, Woodland Trust, Wildlife Trust, etc);
- Experience in planning and undertaking site visits for soil sampling, Soils Handling Units (SHUs); Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) and soil audits to verify compliance;
- Experience in soil reconditioning and ripping methods;
- Experienced in providing training to site operatives and overseeing technical soil advice and monitoring throughout the soil handling operations during the design and construction phases;
- Knowledge of the required treatment of stockpiles during storage;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and organisation skills
Although not essential any candidate with the below would be beneficial to the role:
Experience of working on infrastructure projects.- Member of an environmental professional body.
- An Archaeology / Heritage background i.e. relevant BSc/MSc or equivalent qualification in Archaeology, Heritage or similar.
- Experience in integrating GIS solutions into Heritage / Archaeology mitigation design or during the construction phase of a scheme.
- Commercial awareness.
- Experience of working with regulators such as Historic England, LPAs, etc
