After School Club Assistant Job Description

Hours: Monday – Friday, 3.00 - 6.00pm term-time

Purpose of role:

The person appointed to work at Kelvinside Academy After School Care will be primarily responsible to the Head of Junior School, nevertheless should work in full co-operation with other staff members and take the lead from the ASC Leader.

You will be working as part of a team providing after school care provision for children from Junior 1 - Junior 6 within Kelvinside Academy’s Junior School.

Main Responsibilities

· Ensuring the provision of a high standard of care for the children using the service.

· Assist in the development, organisation, implementation and evaluation of the play schedule while following ASC procedures and risk assessments.

· Work within the standards as set down in the Health & Social Care Standards.

· Ensure the health and safety of the children using the service, and provide a safe welcoming environment.

· Provide a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children attending the service, ensuring children’s choice is at the forefront.

· Undertake certain domestic duties e.g. preparation of snack, cleansing of equipment.

· Attend regular meetings to discuss planning and progress of the service.

· Commit to undertake relevant qualifications and training sessions that will support the quality of the service. Ensure that continuous professional development is actioned throughout the year.

· Work alongside the staff team to ensure the ethos of the ASC is fulfilled.

· Maintain code of conduct with the children, following ASC procedures, and in line with SSSC, including interaction with the children, as and when required within their play environment.

· Liaise with the ASC Leader regarding rotas, holiday/sickness, staff meetings etc. In the event of absence, the Head of Junior School should be the first port of contact via phone/email/staff intranet.

· Communicate fairly and equally with children, colleagues and parents/carers regarding all aspects of the service

· Be an active team member within the setting, supporting colleagues where appropriate. Have a flexible approach and the ability to use initiative.

· To remain calm and professional in all circumstances.

· Be a positive role model for children within the setting following the staff code of conduct.

· Any other duties deemed necessary by the ASC Leader to facilitate the effective operation of the service.

Person Profile

Desirable

Qualifications SVQ 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) or Playwork (or willing to work towards qualification).

Experience

Experience of working in a childcare setting.

Skills

Excellent team working ability; Good oral and written communication skills; Good numeracy and literacy skills; Initiative; Flexibility & adaptability to work with different age ranges.
