About us
The Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) was set up in 1987 to manage legal aid in Scotland. We are a non-departmental public body responsible to the Scottish Government. The Public Defence Solicitors’ Office (PDSO) was established in 1998 and is a national network of publicly employed solicitors operating from seven offices across Scotland providing criminal legal assistance. Operating as a direct service of the SLAB, we advise and represent clients, who are eligible for criminal legal aid, in relation to summary and solemn cases at every level and in Scotland’s busiest courts all over the country.
