Duties

The successful candidate will perform the full range of Administrative Assistant duties.

Such duties include but are not limited to:

  • Typing and proofreading documents for grammatical and punctuation correctness and ensure they conform to format, style, and appearance as required by the NRC.
  • Editing a variety of technical, scientific, and other government documents and official correspondence in accordance with standards, guidelines, and agency procedures.
  • Preparing and reviewing letters, memoranda, reports, staff papers, outgoing correspondence, personnel documents, etc. which may be highly technical and/or classified.
  • Maintaining automated tracking or ticket systems for proper handling of controlled correspondence and action items.
  • Entering documents into the NRC recordkeeping system, Agency-wide Document Access and Management System, following established policies and procedures.
  • Managing appointment calendars for division management and routinely coordinating/adjusting appointment calendars as necessary.
  • Making needed arrangements for meetings/conferences and providing background information regarding topics discussed.
  • Planning travel itineraries and preparing travel authorization requests and vouchers.
  • Directing incoming telephone calls and visitors to the division office.
  • Coordinating the submission of time and labor input within the division in the current agency reporting system.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least 4 years of progressively responsible experience, beyond high school, performing a wide range of administrative and secretarial functions such as preparing correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging travel, etc., one year which must be equivalent the GS/GG-7 grade level in the Federal service.

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

1.) Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and correspondence procedures;

2.) Ability to work efficiently in handling multiple assignments;

3.) Ability to deal tactfully with various levels of personnel;

4.) Ability to work within a team environment or as a lead administrative assistant; and,

5.) Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and appointment calendar.

To qualify for this position you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as: Experience that demonstrates thorough knowledge and familiarity with administrative policies and procedures to properly prepare and review outgoing correspondence, make travel arrangements, prepare travel requests and vouchers, complete time and labor cards, arrange meetings, maintain calendars, manage ticket tracking, and perform other general administrative duties. Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office365 Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and knowledge of NRC or equivalent time and attendance, recordkeeping and travel systems.

The duty location of this position is Atlanta, GA. In general, employees are expected to be in the office at a minimum of 4 days per pay period. Telework schedules are approved, on a case-by-case basis. If selected, telework will be determined in accordance with Agency policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, if applicable.

If a wavier is granted, the successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication is required for continued employment. If you have resided outside the U.S. for an extended period of time, the agency may not be able to (1) grant the 145(b) waiver where the required investigation cannot be completed in a timely manner, or (2) achieve timely completion of the background investigation required for a security clearance.

The NRC is a zero tolerance agency with respect to illegal drug use. Individuals selected for this position will be subject to pre-appointment drug testing unless currently in a NRC position subject to random drug testing AND will be subject to random drug testing upon appointment to the NRC.
