We are currently seeking a highly motivated and team orientated Legal Assistant to join our team as soon as possible.
General Summary
Working under the direction of assigned lawyers, provides legal administrative assistance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- All assistant functions relating to document production, including dicta-typing and typing from written notes;
- Maintain established filing systems including BFs;
- Assist with file preparation and management;
- Type and revise contracts and agreements;
- Organize and assemble document books;
- Become familiar with files, clients and key contacts in order to prioritize incoming calls;
- Liaise with assistants and other lawyers on file progress;
- Prepare, serve and file documents at various Courts;
- Proof-read (documents, letters, memos, etc.);
- Enter timesheets and co-ordinate billing cycle;
- Provide general administrative support to lawyer;
- Organize flights and hotel accommodations; and
- Complete other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of and familiarity with various legal precedents and procedures;
- Ability to remain productive within a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment;
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities;
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment;
- Capable of interpreting instructions and preparing required documentation;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with staff and lawyers;
- Must be accurate and detail-oriented;
- Proficient at proof-reading;
- Ability to manage large case files;
- Ability to exercise strong initiative, judgment and confidentiality;
- Dedicated to providing quality service to clients to consistently meet and exceed expectations;
- Advanced PC Skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Strong word processing and overall technical abilities.
Education and Experience Preferred
- 2-5+ years of experience as a legal assistant with at least 1+ years recent experience in a corporate environment or litigation is preferred; and
- Formal Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal/Law Clerk education and training an asset.
