Job description
Our law firm is looking for a Legal Administrative Assistant to join our team. We are located in Sudbury, Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to providing administrative support to lawyers, with a focus in the area of family law and child protection law. Main tasks shall consist of maintaining legal documents, preparing legal briefs and pleadings, corresponding with the other party or their counsel on litigation files, and occasionally conducting legal research. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn, is able to work independently, has strong attention to detail, and has excellent organizational skills. Ideally, candidates will have a passion for the law and for helping others.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Schedule: In person from Monday to Friday (9:00am to noon and 1:30pm to 5:00pm)
Pay: Will depend on the successful candidate’s education level and past work experience
Responsibilities and Common Tasks
- Schedule and confirm appointments
- Maintain a filing system
- Maintain client files and records
- Help prepare and organize: pleadings in the family law and child protection law context; financial statements and financial disclosure; other legal documents such as briefs, confirmations, etc.
- Review and proofread documents as well as correspondence to ensure compliance with legal procedures and grammatical usage
- Open and distribute regular and electronic incoming mail and other material
- Co-ordinate the flow of information
- Conduct legal research and analysis
Language(s)
- English
- French (definitely an asset, but not required)
Education
- Bachelor's degree (preferred, but not required)
- College Diploma and/or Certificate in Administration;
Experience
- 2 or more years (preferred, but not required)
Computer and Technology Knowledge
- MS Word (must know how to use basic functions like Ctrl+f, Ctrl+Enter, etc.)
- MS Outlook

- Work well under pressure when necessary

- Comfortable with reading and reviewing: Contracts and Agreements; Correspondence; Invoices; Reports and Records; Caselaw; Legislation such as the Family Law Rules and the Rules of Civil Procedure
