The Centre of Clinical Excellence – VFRH, was founded to support the mental and physical health and wellness of Canada’s Veterans & first responders. This brand new, first-of-its kind Centre of Clinical Excellence (CCE) is located within the Legion Veterans Village in Surrey, BC. POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Medical Office Assistant (MOA) to join our Lifestyle Medicine team. You will work within an interdisciplinary environment which includes a team of Physicians, RNs & NPs, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Clinical Counsellors, Kinesiologists, and Nutritionists/Dieticians.
Our interdisciplinary clinic is seeking a highly motivated and autonomous Medical Office Assistant who will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our clinic, which focuses on the health of veterans, first responders, military personnel, and their families.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Greeting and checking-in patients, verifying their information, and assisting with any inquiries they may have
- Scheduling and confirming appointments with patients and providers
- Answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, and triaging urgent matters to the appropriate provider
- Processing medical billing and insurance claims
- Preparing patient charts and maintaining accurate electronic health records (EHR)
- Assisting with patient intake, recording patient history and concerns, and updating EHRs
- Sterilizing medical equipment and preparing exam rooms for patient use
- Coordinating referrals to other providers and services as needed
- Assisting with clinic operations, such as ordering supplies and maintaining equipment
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure interdisciplinary care and continuity of care
- Working collaboratively with the Centre of Clinical Excellence Navigator & Registered Nurse
- Working with Veterans & first responders with chronic and/or acute pain, substance use issues, and/or mental health conditions
- Work closely with the Centre of Clinical Excellence - VFRH team & other Centre of Clinical Excellence practitioners to meet identified client needs and achieve excellent client outcomes
WHAT YOU HAVE:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Completion of a MOA program or equivalent experience
- Proven experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting for at least 5 years
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Familiarity with medical insurance plans and benefit programs offered by different providers
- Ability to communicate with insurance providers and patients regarding claims, denials, and appeals
- Knowledge of benefit claim processing and documentation requirements
- Experience with electronic claims submission and management
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures
- Patient, autonomous work ethic, with strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- A willing & passionate team player who thrives in an interdisciplinary, teamwork setting
- Interested in both personal growth & growth of the organization
- Experience with the following populations considered an asset: Veterans, first responders (RCMP, Police, Army, Firefighters, Nurses, Paramedics, Border Security)
- Experience with shift workers, trauma, or mental health considered an asset

Salary: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
