The Role

The Evidential Property Management Unit are looking for a highly motivated and flexible individual to join their team and undertake the role of Administration Assistant. The team are responsible for providing a high-quality service to internal stakeholders and external customers interacting with the evidential property service.

In this post you will be responsible for ensuring an efficient and effective storage, review, and disposal service for all items of seized property in accordance with force policies and procedures. To include the safe and secure handling, storage, repatriation, and disposal of these items, as well as maintaining accurate recording of property movements within the force Evidential Property
Management System (ePMS).

Key Responsibilities
To undertake safe, secure, and efficient handling of all items of property such as general items, bulk items, hazardous substances, dry and wet forensics, firearms, ammunition, drugs, cash, and valuables which have come into police possession.

To maintain integrity, security, and continuity of movements for all exhibits received into the store, ensuring that the ePMS Property Management System is accurately updated with storage locations, movements, and interactions. To include retrieving exhibits from storage for investigative purposes or presentation at court and dealing with forensic submissions.

Dynamically risk assess the transfer of all incoming items of seized property into the main store, making provisions for handling of large, heavy items using the appropriate equipment provided, complying with H&S procedures, i.e., manual handling guidance and working at height.

Ensure the safe handling and storage of high-risk items, i.e., firearms and ammunition, knives, drugs, and hazardous substances.

To ensure all items of seized property stored in the Evidential Property Store are done so in the correct manner according to Force procedures and Health & Safety regulations.

Comply with Force H&S policy and health & safety legislation at all times, including the use of PPE.

To undertake activities in accordance with the Evidential Property Management Units working practices, policies, and procedures.

To manage and complete the physical disposal of property in accordance with the Greater Management Police Property Policy including Return to Owner, specialist destruction, hazardous waste disposal, and general waste processes.

Act as a point of reference for officers and staff needing assistance with the use of the ePMS and the evidential property process.

Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required.

Skills and Experience

Essential
  • Experienced in working within a clerical/administration/store’s environment or similar.
  • Ability to work to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Keyboard and computer application experience including checking, recording, and inputting of information and the use of IT systems.
  • Carried out duties/tasks that involve dealing with internal and external stakeholders, using interpersonal skills, the application of procedures and the ability to communicate effectively and fluently with a wide range of people including members of the public.
  • Relevant experience within a customer focussed environment.
Desirable
  • Fit to carry out duties which include lifting and carrying of property.
  • There are no formal qualifications required for this role however a B/TEC qualification or equivalent would be desirable.
Benefits
The working hours are 21.75 hours per week, Monday to Wednesday (Daytime) and although Evidential Property Store service delivery hours are normally between 0800 and 1600, the role has a flexitime workstyle, meaning that earlier and later start and finish times can be accommodated, providing these fit in with operational requirements.

Additional time worked can also be accrued over a 4-week period and taken back in hours or full day periods.
The post attracts 24 days annual leave per annum (pro rata), which increases to 29 days (pro rata) after 5 years’ service.

Other Information
Although the above post will be based at West Didsbury Police Station, there will be a requirement to provide cover at other locations within a reasonable travelling distance, expenses will be reimbursed when required to work at a different location.

Greater Manchester Police have been informed of potential personal tax implications for members of the 1987 Police Pension Scheme, who retire and take a pension between the ages of 50 and 54 inclusive and then take up employment as a Police Staff member. Members of the police pension scheme whose age is between 50 and 54 who are re-employed as a Police Staff member have to meet certain conditions to keep their PPA and to protect against personal tax liability charges on any payments paid before the age of 55. One of those conditions is that a break of at least 1 month is required where the re-employment is ‘materially different’. However, if the role is not deemed to be ‘materially different’ then a 6 month break is required.
