The role

As an Actuarial Analyst within the Actuarial Reinsurance Pricing team based in London, you will learn how to apply the theoretical actuarial techniques and methodologies from your university degree to a commercial business environment. You will learn how to navigate the various actuarial pricing systems and platforms and become a proficient user enabling you to share valuable insights amongst your colleagues and internal key stakeholders (reinsurance underwriters). As a valued member of the global actuarial function, you will see how the work you do positively impacts how Aspen meets its strategic objectives to achieve sustainable portfolios and profitable growth.

Key accountabilities

  • Learn how to navigate the various actuarial systems, processes and tools to provide data insights that contribute to the actuarial reinsurance pricing team’s objectives around improved profitability and reducing the risks and probabilities of future events.
  • Analyse data, draw conclusions and make recommendations for improvement, with assistance from more experienced colleagues.
  • Assist in the analysis of expenses and the financial implications of pricing decisions, such as risks, statistical credibility, and competition.
  • Build good working relationships with colleagues performing similar roles within model development, reserving and insurance pricing to develop your knowledge and understanding of how the actuarial function play a key role in the success of Aspen
  • Volunteer your assistance to support actuarial projects and change initiatives, as appropriate, to develop your skills, knowledge and experience of Aspen.
  • Develop your knowledge of how to appropriately document actuarial work, in line with professional standards, internal standards and regulatory requirements.

Skills & experience

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Data Science tools (SQL, Python, R)
  • Inquisitive and investigative skills.
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities to achieve deadlines.
  • Ability to plan effectively and efficiently.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good GCSE and A/AS Level grades, ideally having studied a numerical subject such mathematics to A or AS Level and achieved a B grade or above.
  • 2:1 achieved in an Actuarial Science or a mathematically related BA degree.
  • Capable and willing to work towards the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries qualification
