Reports to: Nominated MACEL Board Director
Business Description
Mid Argyll Community Enterprise Ltd (MACEL) is a Charitable organisation responsible for running the MACPool Activity Hub on behalf of the community. These facilities include a 20m swimming pool, children’s soft play area, café, and spaces for group activities and individual treatment areas.
MACPool Activity Hub enabling the community to swim and take part in exercise, leisure, and social activities in support of health and well-being.
Job Purpose
Responsible to the board of directors for the overall management of the MACPool Activity Hub operations, maintaining financial controls to ensure the business can sustain itself.
Leading the Hub team to deliver a business which is passionate about health, wellness, and the local community with an ambition to drive service quality and customer experience.
Supporting the MACEL board of directors to deliver projects to maintain and enhance our offer to the community.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Responsible for the operational management of the Hub facilities .
- Provide leadership, ensuring staff are trained, rewarded, and supported to gain the right skills and experience to undertake their duties and provide great customer service.
- Maximise and develop sales opportunities, and ensure sufficient financial controls are in place to minimise cost.
- To monitor and report on the performance of the business to the board supporting them to develop and agree the future development of the Hub.
- Develop and maintain the website and other social media sites to communicate our activities and events to the community.
- To develop and manage MACEL projects including, developing funding opportunities and sponsorship initiatives.
- Ensure the equipment, buildings and grounds are well maintained and fit for purpose.
Measures of Success
- Ensure effective operational policies and procedures are in place as required to manage the business including health and safety regulations, the PWTAG code of practice for swimming pool water, food hygiene Scotland regulations and BS8409 guidance relating to indoor play areas.
- Ensure effective processes are in place to minimise staff turnover.
- Ensure plans are in place to control costs, increase income and ensure financial performance is monitored and delivered to budget, reporting progress monthly to the board.
- Regularly seek feedback on our service activities and communication to ensure it is relevant to the needs of the community.
- Increase usage of the facilities for younger children by engaging Schools and nurseries
- Maintain or grow our funding streams from Argyll and Bute Council and other funding bodies.
- Breakdowns are minimised, and the pool remains open to the public as planned.
Capabilities and Experience
Essential
- Experienced in running a profitable business in a customer focused environment.
- Previous management experience in developing and managing teams.
- Must be able to swim.
- Demonstrate Sound financial management skills including the use of financial systems and excel.
- Excellent communication skills
Desirable
- Experience in running or managing a leisure facility.
- Knowledge/qualification in H&S in a wet leisure environment
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
- Pool Plant Operators Certificate
- First Aid at Work
Qualifications/Academic/Vocational
Ideally educated to degree level
SVQ or HND in Leisure Management or similar
