As an Active Outdoor Assistant, you'll be joining a team whose main focus is welcoming visitors and helping them safely use the rowing boats.
Based outside beside the river, you'll will work with colleagues in the Welcome Team and other departments to ensure all visitors have a brilliant time whenever they visit Flatford.
Salary: £10.78 per hour
The Hours: Flexible hours to be discussed at interview with a variety of shift patterns available. The role will require weekend hours but again we would discuss your availability upon successful completion of your application.
Given the nature of this outdoors weather dependent role, we are unable to guarantee a firm working pattern, but you could expect to work between 200 and 400 hours over the duration of the contract.
What it's like to work here:Reporting to the Site Manager, you'll work with 5 people, as part of the Active Outdoor team. You'll also work closely with the 8 people in the Welcome team. The site overall has around 25 staff and 70 volunteers.
Flatford is a famous location that has been a tourist and cultural destination for over a century. It attracts many thousands of visitors per year, from local people walking their dogs to international visitors searching for the Constable views. As well as beautiful countryside and fascinating history, Flatford has a very popular tea room, gift shop and exhibition. The rowing boat hire is one of the most popular features at Flatford, so you will be joining the team who help visitors enjoy their time on the river Stour.
What you'll be doing:You will be working outside beside the river, running the boat hire operation at Flatford on a day to day basis. Responsibilities will include: helping visitors in and out of rowing boats; ensuring the safe use of the rowing boats and maintaining high health and safety standards; cleaning and maintaining the rowing boats and cash handling. The work will be quite physical and you will be expected to work on a floating pontoon, climb in and out of rowing boats and help visitors in and out of boats. You will work closely with the Welcome team, who manage the visitor experience at Flatford. You may join them for some shifts in the Welcome area and help with events and activities across the site.
- Keen to deliver excellent customer service to ensure visitors get the best possible experience from their visit
- Be willing to physically help people in and out of rowing boats
- Are comfortable working near water and on floating structures
- Are happy to engage visitors whilst ensuring all compliance and safety requirements are being met
- A team player, but also can work on your own initiative
- Are willing to undertake all necessary training and learn new skills if necessary, such as rowing and boat maintenance
