This is an exciting opportunity to join us as an Accounts Assistant, within the Finance Department at Tesco Underwriting.

Working as part of the Finance team, the primary focus of the role is to ensure timely & accurate Accounts Payable entries, including invoices, credit notes, payment runs and reconciliations. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive working relationships with key partners and stakeholders. These include Tesco Bank and colleagues across the company

Location

This is a hybrid-based role that will work from our Reigate Office – expectations would be for you to attend the office once per week.

Hours of Work

Monday – Thursday: 9am – 5pm

Friday: 9am – 4.45pm


The Account Assistant’s main responsibilities will be:

  • Input invoices accurately onto the accounts payable system, ensuring that invoices have been coded correctly and approved in line with delegated authorities and that suppliers are paid in accordance with terms of credit. Dealing with suppliers’ queries.

  • Supplier payments are made accurately and timely in line with payment terms.

  • Ensure payment runs are prepared in accordance with approved authorisations and signed in accordance with agreed mandates.

  • Reconcile daily and monthly bank reconciliations, dealing with queries as required.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Cashiers, Claims, and approvers.

  • Provide cover for team when required i.e. holidays

  • Produce relevant balance sheet reconciliations, month end processes and posting journals.

Experience and skills that are essential to be an Accounts Assistant in our Finance Team:

  • Preferably hold or be working towards a recognised financial qualification, e.g. AAT or equivalent qualification / experience

  • Previous experience of working in a accounting function, ideally within the financial services sector

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Numerate; able to perform accounting/financial reconciliations identifying data errors.

  • High levels of computer literacy, previous experience of using Excel, Crystal or other reporting tool.

  • High degree of accuracy; demonstrates a significant level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and build rapport across all levels of the organisation.

  • Able to communicate effectively; avoiding financial jargon and acronyms as appropriate.

  • Good planning skills; able to prioritise own work to meet agreed schedules and accounting deadlines.
