Job description
This position is responsible for the oversight and management of daily operations within the Accounting Department.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure; supervise the general ledger to ensure it is configured correctly
- Generate and analyze weekly flash report
- Ensure the timely reporting of monthly financial information
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close
- Ensure the monthly and quarterly bank compliance activities are performed timely and accurately (i.e. accuracy of AR aging)
- Monitor and analyze departmental processes and develop more efficient procedures and use of resources as required
- Work with the internal staff and external auditor to ensure a clean a timely year end audit
- Perform monthly financial statement consolidation
- Oversee the internal control functions
- Reconcile the intercompany general ledger accounts
- Plan, direct, and coordinate work plans; assign projects, review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; identify and resolve problems
- Oversee accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and fixed assets
- Provide financial support for Senior Management
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Five years of professional accounting experience
- One or more year of supervisory or management experience
- Public accounting experience with construction accounting preferred
- Purchase accounting experience preferred
- Knowledge of sales tax and payroll laws
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Experience working with Oracle preferred
- Proficiency with and/or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s systems and software
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (i.e., pivot tables and v-lookups)
- Highly organized and detail orientated
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
- Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgement, and solve problems
- Ability to lead, teach, train, and motivate staff
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
- Sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day
- Working on a computer for 6-8 hours a day
- May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
- Travel up to 10% of the time, including short notice travel
