Senior Accounting Manager reporting to the Deputy Director for Finance/Accounting, this position is a key member of the Department’s management team. This position will lead the accounting team for MIT Lincoln Laboratory and oversee all accounting activities. Reporting into this role are 12 administrative staff and 5 support staff members. The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for the overall management of all activities of the Financial Accounting Group including labor distribution; billing and receivables; accounting for unrecoverable costs and conferences; all general ledger activities including month‐end closing, monthly financial reporting, audit support; cash management and banking; and accounts payable. The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for personnel matters, including hiring, wage and salary reviews, staff performance evaluations and handling of personnel performance issues involving the personnel in the Accounting Group. The successful candidate will need an understanding of OMB Uniform Guidance and be a resource to the business community in understanding direct and indirect costs and identifying allowable and unallowable charges to federal programs according to OMB Uniform Guidance. The Senior Accounting Manager needs to assure continuous improvement, best practice, and efficiencies in all areas of financial accounting.
Job Requirements
- 10 years + of demonstrated leadership experience in the accounting area
- Senior level accounting professional who will be able to contribute as a respected part of the management team for Lincoln Laboratory Finance
- Strong knowledge of the OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and CAS requirements. Must be well versed in FAR/DFARS and FASB requirements as well as being able to demonstrate strength in generally accepted corporate accounting topics and practices
- Experience and proficiency in putting forth guidance and management for FFDRC financial guidance and overall FAR/DFARS financial guidance requirements
- Must have a strong accounting background and provide accounting guidance across the Laboratory Experience managing staff and have the ability to lead, direct, and mentor accounting group staff
- Must have a strong understanding of financial operations and transactional environments including accounts payable, invoicing, payroll, and cash management.
- Experience with establishing and enforcing accounting and financial controls as well as writing and enforcing
- financial policies and procedures
- Expertise and experience working with internal and external auditors is required, Government auditors preferred
- Strong knowledge of ERP Accounting application is required. SAP is preferred.

- Must be comfortable interacting, collaborating, and communicating with personnel at all levels of Lincoln Laboratory and MIT campus
- Ability to lead, adapt, and participate in change management as new process and systems are implemented Must develop and maintain a strong working relationship with Government financial management and contracting personnel
- Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills
- Must be able to communicate well with personnel within the government (DCAA, DISA, DFAS, and on occasion, sponsors)
- Strong communication skills are required including excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate communication and presentation skills that would enable them to be a pro‐active resource on accounting and finance questions and topics
- Prior experience working for a non‐profit under OMB Uniform Guidance is preferred
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar field
- MA in Accounting or MBA with Accounting concentration is desired
- CPA is desired
