The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a
part-time (20 Hours) Accounting Clerk I /Social Service Worker for the Service Center located in Douglas, GA.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical accounting functions including financial recordkeeping and reporting; processes billings, invoices, purchase orders, requisitions, checks, check requests, tax reports, payments, and /or deposits. Answers the telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; receives and receipts deliveries and donations; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army’s operations and services; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing. Provides social service assistance to eligible clients in the following areas; food, lodging, clothing, furniture, and financial assistance; interviews clients to determine need and eligibility to receive services; prepares accurate and complete client records; refers clients to community agencies and maintains effective working relationships with the same; ensures compliance with program policies and procedures. Serves as an advocate for clients in order to acquire services that will enable them to functionally cope with their environment. Oversees the food pantry and packs food orders for distribution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the practices and procedures of basic accounting and/or bookkeeping; Knowledge of general office practices and procedures; Knowledge of effective and efficient record-keeping and bookkeeping practices and procedures; Knowledge of the English language including proper grammar and punctuation; Knowledge of basic mathematics; Ability to organize and maintain files of accounting records; Ability to apply attention to detail and to perform assigned work at a level of proficiency that will limit the impact of errors; Ability to process financial documents in compliance with established policies and procedures; Ability to read, write, and communicate t the English language; Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer; Ability to perform mathematical calculations; Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically; Ability to use/operate various general office equipment including a telephone, typewriter, computer, and adding machine; Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to clients requiring assistance.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D, and Two (2) years progressively responsible experience working in a general office with accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities, or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements; Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking; a Limited amount of physical effort is required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
