An opportunity has arisen within our rapidly expanding accountancy practice based in Newtownards, County Down for an experienced Assistant Accountant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong financial background to join a company with exceptional customer service and significant training and development opportunities.
The successful candidate will deliver an efficient, timely and accurate service to a wide variety of clients in many industries either in house or on site as required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate personal characteristics appropriate to this post such as a 'can do' attitude, IT capability, multitasking, attention to detail, teamwork and working to fixed deadlines.
The role will require the candidate to join a friendly and dynamic team with a focus on getting the job done for the client. There will be opportunity for self-management whilst being supported by the Principal Accountant to increase efficiency and accuracy within each job.
Responsibilities
- To communicate effectively with colleagues and clients to manage the workflow for our client’s taxes
- To accurately and efficiently process client paperwork to ensure timely preparation and filing of VAT returns, Tax Returns and Accounts
- To prepare Sole Trader & Partnership Accounts and associated Tax Returns
- To prepare Limited Company Accounts and associated Tax Returns
- To assist in the preparation of Capital Gains Computations
- To assist in the preparation of Payroll
- To provide friendly and approachable support to clients and other team members, particularly in mentoring the more inexperienced members of our team
- To manage and engage with a portfolio of clients to ensure excellent customer services
- To actively contribute to the team @ SJO ensuring client focus in every aspect of your work
The Ideal Candidate
- You will have a can-do attitude with a strong focus on attention to detail and the ability to manage your time effectively to meet deadlines
- You can efficiently use Microsoft Office and demonstrate advanced MS Excel skills
- You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability and the drive to work efficiently and independently
- You will have excellent communication skills to deal confidently with clients and team members
Essential Criteria
- 5 GCES’s to include at least a ‘C’ grade or above, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
- Third level qualification min 2:1 desirable but not essential or equivalent professional qualification
- You will have a minimum of 3 years’ accounting experience ideally in a practice environment
- You will have experience of computerised accounts packages e.g Quickbooks, Xero, Sage
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience of running computerised payroll
- AAT/ATI qualification or equivalent or be Part Qualified Recognised Professional Accountancy Body (ACCA, ICAI, CIMA, etc)
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 40 per week
Salary: £28,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
