Payroll/Accounting Assistant
Finance & Administrative Services

Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administrative
Services, the Payroll/Accounting Assistant is responsible for performing various clerical and accounting tasks, including data management and updating relevant information. This position will help compile budget data and documents based on estimated revenues, expenses and previous budgets.
The successful applicant will also assist with related clerical duties including word processing, maintaining filing/record systems, faxing and photocopying. This position provides support to other roles within the Department as required, and also participates on assigned teams and committees.

The Payroll/Accounting Assistant ensures their duties are carried out in alignment with the vision, mission, values, goals and objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.

Key Duties

1. Performs various tasks related to payroll, attendance, accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchasing.

2. Protects confidential finance documents.
3. Completes various reconciliations and investigates discrepancies.
4. Performs data entry and reports preparation.
5. Assists with timesheet reviews for salary and hourly employees during bi-weekly payroll processing.
6. Ensures that hours are categorized properly and approved by managers.
7. Supports various departments with purchasing processes.
8. Helps monitor the expenses and maintain the accuracy of the general ledger.
9. Create and maintain standard operating procedures.
10. Liaises with suppliers and various departments within the library.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Successful completion of one-year post-secondary business-related program, plus or including:
  • Introductory Accounting 1.
  • Introductory Accounting 2.
  • Two years of work experience related to payroll and/or accounting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in the stated accountabilities and competencies.

Remuneration
Pay band 4: $61,599.12 - $72,380.88 per annum
