Our client is experiencing significant growth being a global energy company, who focus on renewable energy and power.
Due to this growth they are searching for a Trade Accountant to join the growing international Finance team. The successful person will have a strong derivative accounting background, with previous experience in a commodity trading environment. As a global role, this person can be based in either Berlin or London.
This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:
- Review daily P&L reports and associated reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end Accounting close and internal/external reporting requirements.
- Review forward book ensuring proper derivative accounting standards are followed.
- Ensure appropriate substantiation of any trading-related balance sheet values and proper documentation of all realized trading income.
- Work with the trading organization and management to help communicate variances between the general ledger gross profit and the daily P&L reports generated by the risk system.
- Assist in the continued development of Finance and Accounting systems and procedures.
- Provide insight to the design and participate in testing of ETRM solutions being developed for use in Finance.
- Assist with ad-hoc analysis and requested reporting as needed.
In addition to a strong derivative background in accounting, we are looking for somebody with the following:
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
- Significant experience working in a commodity trading organization in financial control and accounting.
- Exposure to the Daily P&L process in a commodity trading environment.
- Prior experience working with large raw data sets and manipulating in Excel.
- Ability to develop relationships with multiple stakeholders including traders, marketers, risk & IT professionals.
- Experience working with or in other departments, such as Risk, Middle Office, Operations, Settlements.
KNOWLEDGE BASE:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Accounting or Finance; further qualifications such as an MBA or other post-graduate degree is preferred.
- Knowledge of the energy trading industry, specifically the power, natural gas, or crude markets is desirable.
- Familiarity with commodity financial instruments such as futures, swaps and options, as well as basic valuation methodologies is desirable.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and IAS/IFRS accounting standards.
- Computer skills including, but not limited to, Excel, SQL, VBA, Python, or equivalents.
