Our greatest asset has been and will continue to be our people. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Accounting Specialist based in Houston, TX.
This position requires a candidate with strong, professional written and verbal communication skills. The individual will be the primary Accounts Payable contact for an OxyChem or Occidental Oil & Gas location. They will be responsible for processing all invoices for the specified location and for maintaining relationships with vendors, as well as individuals within our organization. The position includes extensive problem solving and research of vendor accounts.
- Process invoices or internal requests for payment (PO and Non PO) using various systems
- Respond to calls and correspondence from internal and external contacts in a timely manner.
- Research and reconcile vendor statements.
- Maintain familiarity with policies and procedures.
- Work with Plant, Field, Corporate, Transportation, Customer Service, IT and Supply Chain staff to resolve issues
- Required to meet strict payment terms on all invoices.
- Work with Supervisor and/or Coordinator on special projects when needed.
- Maintain desk manual.
- Assist with system testing when needed
- Recommends and evaluates improvements and streamline opportunities in areas of responsibility.
- Gathering information from new vendors for new vendor setups. (W9, ACH form, etc.)
Required Qualifications.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong research and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
- Ability to work well with others and maintain composure in handling unpleasant situations.
- Ability to handle and complete multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines
- Positive Attitude
- Ability to evaluate and analyze areas for improvement or needed changes
- Excellent 10-key and typing skills
- History of good tenure
- Open to change and willingness to learn new skills
- Intermediate skills in Excel
Desired Qualification
- SAP experience
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
