Accountant
Permanent / 37hrs per week.
We are currently looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual who is looking to continue their career development within the Council’s finance team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for – providing financial support to Corporate Directors, Heads of Service and Budget Managers.
The main duties of the post;
To provide financial support and to ensure the delivery of effective financial services across designated service areas.
To be involved in the Budget preparation process, for allocated services and projects.
To provide financial information, for inclusion in plans and strategies.
To undertake budget monitoring tasks each month and provide information for the monthly management meetings and the quarterly budget monitoring reports.
To maintain financial records for the allocated services
To contribute to the financial monitoring of specific projects managed within service areas.
To prepare grant claims by due dates and maintain adequate records for audit and grant bodies purposes.
To complete statutory accounts, and other returns and financial claims, by due dates.
To be involved with the Closure of Accounts process, including advising staff and management staff on procedures, preparation and finalisation of working papers and responding to queries from auditors.
To undertake such other duties as may be required commensurate with the scope of the Accountant’s role.
You will have experience in/of;
Budgeting, financial analysis and reporting, income recording, grant management, ledger maintenance and final accounts.
Experience in the use of spreadsheets, word processing and general ledger packages.
Experience of providing professional advice and support to service directorates and partnerships.
Ideally you will have;
Knowledge and experience of local government finance systems
You must be a fully Qualified Accounting Technician (AAT) or hold an equivalent qualification for this role.
You will be an integral part of the Financial Services team working specifically to support the Directorate of Education, Leisure & Lifelong Learning. Funding and support will also be available to complete an agreed CCAB qualification.
