Job Description
The Loudoun County Department of Health seeks a talented and highly motivated individual to serve as an Accountant III.
Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, oversees complex financial programs. This position, depending on assignment, manages capital budget and expenses; handles additions, transfers, adjustments, and dispositions of fixed assets; assists accounting staff with questions or projects; performs various financial accounting activities; reconciles accounts; transfers funds; ensures financial system produces accurate results; creates financial reports; oversees state sales and use tax returns process; and assists in year-end and grant accounting.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manages accounting of assigned funds. (Monitors budget revenue and expenditures to ensure proper accounting; prepares journal entries, accounting transactions, and reconciliations; monitors trial balance; and researches and resolves accounting or posting issues.)
- Reviews financial documents. (Reviews financial documents for accuracy; reviews purchase orders, invoices, and requests for payment.)
- Audits capital budget. (Completes and submits audits of the capital project accounts; coordinates resolution of budget adjustments or accounting issues.)
- Completes research and analysis. (Completes research and analysis on strategic initiatives, policies, issues, procedures, programs, or trends.)
- Assists with budget oversight. (Monitors budget activity; anticipates and addresses budget shortfalls.)
- May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; three (3) years of related work experience in professional level accounting, preferably in a government accounting setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Post Conditional Offer Contingencies
Pass pre-employment criminal and credit background checks. Positions in public safety may require fingerprinting and polygraph examination. CPA, CPFO, and VGFOA certification and completion of GAAP courses preferred.
