Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller and supports the finance team with ensuring timely general ledger accounting and reconciliation, providing targeted assistance with financial reporting and analysis to support senior management as well as the operations of the finance team and leads special projects as directed by the Controller or CFO. We are looking for someone who possesses a spirit of curiosity and dynamism to help create financial systems that allow for efficiency and longevity across our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Analyzes monthly financial performance.
- Coordinates monthly and year-end close.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, reviewing items for capitalization, and depreciating items in accordance with KIPP policy.
- Work with the Controller in maintaining the chart of accounts.
General Ledger Accounting & Reconciliation
- Perform monthly calculation and reconciliation of the charter management organization fees.
- Prepare journal entries for month-end closing.
- Reconcile various assigned general ledger accounts.
- Submit the request for reimbursement for the National School Lunch Program and reconciles monthly program activities.
- Assist with fiscal year-end closing and annual audit. Prepare work papers, complete analysis and other audit schedules.
- Assist with the Form 990 tax return.
Special Projects
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or business degree with a concentration in accounting is strongly preferred.
Minimum of five years of accounting experience, with some experience in education or non-profit environment a plus.
Strong grasp of fundamental accounting concepts.
Possess strong analytical skills, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, sound judgment, and decision-making skills.
Demonstrate and maintain a professional, service-oriented attitude; good communication skills; and the ability to work with various constituencies.
Demonstrate and maintain strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and accounting software programs. Experience with Sage Intacct and ADP is a plus.
Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet deadlines, independently and in a team environment.

Additional Information
Compensation
The starting salary range for this role is $80,000 - $85,000. Salaries are commensurate with experience.
