Job Summary:
The Accounting Supervisor will report directly to our VP, Finance and will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, manage a team, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Your expertise in ecommerce accounting, strong leadership skills, and attention to detail will be instrumental in supporting our company's financial success.
Responsibilities:
General Accounting:
- Responsible for the maintenance and oversight of the day-to-day transactions (A/R, A/P, G/L and J/Es)
- Managing the payment of bills and invoices owed to vendors, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to payment terms.
- Tracking and collecting payments owed to the organization by customers or clients, including issuing invoices, following up on overdue payments, and reconciling accounts.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Monitor and review financial transactions, account reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
- Identify and investigate any discrepancies or irregularities in financial reports.
Compliance and Controls:
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, industry standards, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets and prevent fraud or misappropriation.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations.
Ecommerce Accounting:
- Apply specialized knowledge of ecommerce accounting principles, such as revenue recognition, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Marketing, and IT, to understand and address accounting implications of business initiatives.
- Analyze financial data related to ecommerce operations, identify trends, and provide insights for strategic decision-making.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate accounting processes and procedures, identifying opportunities for streamlining, automation, and efficiency improvements.
- Implement best practices and standardized workflows to enhance accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Stay updated on emerging accounting trends, regulations, and technologies in the ecommerce industry.
Other duties:
- Act as a back-up to the VP, Finance for select job duties and responsibilities when required
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting, with a focus on ecommerce or retail.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant accounting standards.
- Experience with ecommerce platforms and accounting software systems, such as Business Central Dynamics.
- Proficient in MS Excel and other accounting software applications.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role, with demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
