Job description

A not-for-profit organisation looking for a Group Assistant Accountant to play a vital role in their finance department. With an AAT qualification or similar and at least three years of finance experience, you'll contribute to the day-to-day financial activities and support both the Group Financial Controller

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain accruals and prepayments schedules and prepare month-end journals
  • Manage fixed asset registers and ensure they reconcile to the trial balance
  • Prepare month-end management accounts
  • Generate weekly financial and performance reports for C&C
  • Support accounts assistants and ensure timely completion of month-end tasks
  • Maintain weekly and monthly cash flow reporting schedules
  • Prepare intercompany invoices and transfers, reconciling intercompany balances
  • Assist with year-end audit
  • Attend Future Business Centre operations meetings and handle finance-related actions
  • Oversee business rates
  • Track income on Allia Impact grants and contracts using project trackers
  • Monitor relevant bond payments, including invoicing and payments
  • Reconcile monthly commission statements and prepare relevant journals
  • Complete ONS surveys

Skills and Qualifications Required

Essential
  • 3+ years of accounting experience
  • AAT Qualification or similar
  • Strong experience in basic accounting, preparing journals, and reconciliations (preferably working with subsidiaries)
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks while collaborating with the team
  • Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft packages (Word, Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Problem-solving abilities and proactive initiative

Desirable
  • Competent in using Sage 200 or similar
  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit organization
