If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Utility Billing team as an Accounting Specialist. In this role, you will have the chance to interact with the public, support approximately 18,000 water and sewer customers, handle their inquiries, process payments, and ensure the accuracy of our records. More About You:
- You have strong customer service background. Your transferrable experience may include working in roles such as banking teller, customer service representative, hotel front-of-house staff, casino dealer, or patient coordinator with a healthcare provider.
- You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to answer customer questions, facilitate account transfers, handle complaints, and provide detailed information on our services, rates, policies, and procedures.
- You have a proven ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, exhibiting resilience dealing with customers or challenging situations without getting flustered. Your self-regulation and effective problem-solving skills will shine in this role.
- Your previous experience involves extensive interaction with the public, other jurisdictions, and internal departments. You are committed to delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a professional demeanor.
- You have high attention to detail and organization, which allows you to coordinate and process payment or bills accurately, efficiently, and on time.
Key Responsibilities of this position include:
Coordinate and process payment or bills, including the creation, modification, and import of relatively complex spreadsheets.- Initiate, update, modify, and maintain accurate records within a computerized system, ensuring proper account codes are assigned to transactions.
- Analyze water consumption trends and take appropriate follow-up actions.
- Answer inquiries by phone, in person, or through email correspondence.
- Attend to and resolve customer complaints or escalate them to the next level if problems persist.
- Follow established guidelines, review, evaluate and process revenues or expenditures for specific fund types and report the information to appropriate external agencies or internal departments.
Education and Experience:
- Associates Degree in accounting, business, public administration, or related field, and
- Three years of bookkeeping or related experience
- Public sector accounting experience preferred, or
- Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire, and a driving record that meets city standards.
