OPPORTUNITY PROFILE

Due to continued growth within Cenergist we are looking for a Commercial Accountant to join our established finance team. The role will be focusing on supporting project teams and operational leads in the financial delivery of projects, driving margin improvements and cost control. To take responsibility for a portfolio of project accounts and application of revenue recognition methodology across the group.

The position can be based remotely in the UK, however regular travel will be required to Head Office and operating locations around the UK (current estimate c. 40 – 50%).

KEY TASKS

  • To provide strong operational support to the delivery team and other stakeholders by advising on best practice procedures with projects and their accounting principles
  • To challenge cost forecasts and drive margin improvements, working closely with delivery and commercial teams to understand key risks and opportunities
  • To advise and drive margin improvements through the reporting and analysis of project costing, suggesting and activating changes on an as-needs basis.
  • To be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate monthly project accounts, including variance analysis, within set deadlines
  • To ensure adherence and be accountable for such adherence of all project accounting and regulatory policies to include revenue and cost recognition, government accounting requirements etc
  • To monitor WIP and POA, including preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and variance reporting within set deadlines
  • To implement and lead on quarterly margin reviews
  • To be responsible for driving continuous improvement and efficiency in reporting and tools by the education and effective communication to the project teams
  • To support the sales and bid teams in preparation / review of cost models, assisting in tender sign off processes and ensuring all internal controls and commercial approvals are adhered to.
  • To ensure that the Order Book is kept up to date and accurate
  • To lead and embrace change within designated areas of responsibility.
  • To perform such other ad hoc responsibilities which may be required from time to time.

DEMONSTRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years post qualification experience
  • Exposure to long term contract accounting
  • Advanced IT skills; proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Experience with an ERP system desirable but nt essential (Sage 50 an advantage)

  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload, including co-ordinating with others and ensuring that statutory and other deadlines are met.
  • Ability to multitask effectively ensuring timelines are met
