SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant for our St. Stephen mill. The Senior Accountant is an active member of the finance team and supports the on-site Operations Controller. This role is instrumental in interdepartmental communication supporting enhanced value of the site.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee administrative tasks, including but not limited to wood and additive reconciliations.
- Month-end standard journal entries, accruals, and maintenance of Key Statistical information for the site.
- Monthly reconciliation of General Ledger accounts.
- Monthly tax reconciliation and remittances.
- Mill financial statement review and analysis of actual variances against standards.
- Communicate monthly results to mill management team.
- Regular review of mill Vendor Invoice Management queue and GRIR (Goods Received/Invoice Received) report to ensure timely vendor payment and recording of expense.
- Develop reporting tools to support value enhancement.
- Assist Operations Controller with preparation of monthly and quarterly rolling forecasts.
- Ability to work in team-based, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Assist Operations Controller with financial analysis and decision support on capital projects and operating postures.
- Ensure mill fixed asset ledger is accurate and up-to-date.
- Provide timely and accurate financial information to the management team to facilitate optimal decision making.
- Ad hoc reporting as required by mill personnel.
- Regular reviews of financial information with key stakeholders.
- Provide support to internal and external audit process as required.
- Special Projects as assigned by Mill Management, Operations Controller and the Director of Finance.
- Develop and maintain individual and company goals.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A recognized Professional Accounting Designation is preferred.
- Prior experience in Finance/Accounting for a manufacturing company is preferred.
- Prior experience with product costing in a manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Prior experience using SAP in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand financial statements.
- Strong analytical skills, including ability to solve for algebraic variables.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to take a general question, sort through detailed data, and deliver meaningful, concise, verbal or written report that drives positive business decision making.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Knowledge of pivot tables and advanced formulas are beneficial.
- Ability to speak in front of mill team, including preparing presentation for team meetings.
- Must have ability to understand difference between total cost and cost per unit and their respective values in spotting trends.
- Ability to travel (5%) as required.
