We are looking for someone to join our team as the Senior Accounting Generalist. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who is comfortable working on a wide range of accounting responsibilities that include, but are not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciling accounts, performing month-end and year-end closing functions, depositing checks, processing and coding invoices and payroll. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accounting Generalist will be responsible for responsible for supporting various members of the accounting team as workloads shift.

The Senior Accounting Generalist must perform various job duties and responsibilities, and these may include, but are not limited to:
Prepare “audit ready” monthly account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, including intercompany transactions for all legal entities.- Prepare reconciliations of significant revenue and expense accounts for all entities, ensuring that revenue and expense recognition is compliant with GAAP.
- Work with ASEA and affiliate staff to resolve variances in account reconciliations in a timely manner.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for improving efficiencies in transaction processes.
- Support the annual financial statement audits for all entities and for the 401K retirement plan.
- Support the tax accounting firm in preparing the annual 990, 990T, 1120 annual filings as well as the quarterly tax estimates.
- Communicate effectively and with a service-oriented approach with ASAE staff as needed to resolve issues or follow up on accounting and finance-related questions and issues.
- Serve as backup to other accounting functions.
- Build and maintain relationships with colleagues.
- Perform special projects as needed.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, business, or similar field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience with not-for-profit, multi-entity organizations with significant project accounting and intercompany transactions.
Essential Skills
- A thorough understanding of accounting principals and relevant ASC pronouncements.
- Public accounting experience with not-for-profits a plus.
- Advanced understanding of modern accounting software systems such as Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Expensify.
- Understanding of inherent risks of errors and omissions in various accounting transactions and the control procedures used to mitigate those risks.
- Advanced skills with MS Excel, and other modern office technology..
- Ability to maintain the integrity and credibility of the accounting transactions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating with all levels within an organization.
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables in a dynamic environment.
- Must be able to effectively work and collaborate in a hybrid environment using Teams, Zoom or other collaboration software.
- Work collaboratively with outsourced accounting resources to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
- Work with employees ASAE-wide.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
